Melissa Mae Nierva

Educator. Trainer. Author.

Hi, I’m Melissa Mae Nierva — a mathematics educator, Singapore Math trainer, and consultant. But, to my dear students, I am Teacher Mel.

My career has been devoted to one goal: helping every learner discover that they are capable of understanding and enjoying mathematics.

I began my teaching career right after I obtained my degree in BS Psychology from the University of Santo Tomas. Since then, I have had the pleasure of educating students from Kindergarten through Grade 10, including intervention classes for students with special needs — giving me a rare, ground-level understanding of how diverse learners engage with mathematics.

To further hone my craft, I completed my MA in Basic Education Teaching from Ateneo de Manila University.

Why Become an Expert in Singapore Math?

Here’s a little backstory.

Growing up, I believed I wasn’t a “math person.” I struggled with multiplication tables and dreaded solving problems on the board.

But everything changed when I discovered Singapore Math while teaching at Ateneo Grade School. For the first time, I saw math in a whole new light — one that made sense, sparked curiosity, and brought joy.

That transformative experience led me to complete Singapore Math training programs in the Philippines, Singapore, and the United States.

And since then, I taught Singapore Math at Ateneo Grade School, and served as both Learning Directress and Program Directress at Singapore Math enrichment centers.

Today, as an educational consultant, I develop, design, and deliver training programs for teachers, parents, and schools and tutorial centers, equipping them to help children build confidence, master concepts, and even love math.
